John D. McDowell, DDS, MS

McDowell is a tenured professor in the Department of Diagnostic and Biological Sciences at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree from Loyola University of Chicago School of Dentistry. Subsequently, Dr. McDowell completed a five-year combined residency and fellowship program at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. In addition, he holds a Master of Science degree from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas. His master's thesis compared the radiographic features of facial fractures in female victims of domestic violence to those in women involved in motor vehicle accidents.

Mary K. Jesse, M.D.

An Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She earned her Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch School of Medicine in 2007. Dr. Jesse completed her internship at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (Austin) Program in 2008 and her residency in Radiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston Program in 2012. She then pursued a fellowship in Musculoskeletal Radiology at the University of Colorado (University Hospital) Program, which she completed in 2012. Dr. Jesse is board-certified in Radiology (2012) and has specialized training in Radiology - Musculoskeletal Imaging and Procedures (2012). Her research interests include the impact of virtual interviews on the musculoskeletal radiology fellowship match, strategies for integrating work-from-home faculty in academic radiology departments, and radiographic assessment of acute vs. chronic vertebral compression fractures. Dr. Jesse has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in her field of expertise.

James Caruso, M.D.

Caruso is the Chief Medical Examiner and Forensic Pathologist for the City and County of Denver. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine after completing his undergraduate degree in Biology at the same institution. Dr. Caruso served in the United States Navy for 30 years, during which he practiced shipboard medicine, diving and submarine medicine, aviation medicine, hospital-based pathology, and forensic pathology. He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology along with a fellowship in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Caruso received his Forensic Pathology training at the Maryland Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore and is board-certified in all of these medical specialties. Throughout his career, he has performed autopsies in various locations worldwide, including hostile environments such as Iraq. Dr. Caruso has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters. In his current role as Chief Medical Examiner and Coroner for Denver, Colorado, he oversees a medical examiner office for a large city and serves as faculty for local medical schools.

Dr. William Rodriguez III

Rodriguez is a forensic anthropologist who has had an accomplished career in the field, having served as the chief forensic anthropologist and chief deputy medical examiner for special investigations for the Department of Defense Armed Forces Medical Examiner's Office for more than 20 years. He has been involved in numerous high-profile cases, including investigations related to the Black Hawk Down incident in Mogadishu, Somalia; war crimes in Kosovo and Iraq; and the Space Shuttle Columbia's explosion. Dr. Rodriguez has also worked on cases for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the State of Maryland and served as a forensic consultant for various organizations.
